Volume One · Identity Saga

Story Overview • Themes of Grief, Recovery, and Found Family

It's spring, 2017. The events of Civil War have taken place, sans the outcome of Siberia. Though the trust between them had been broken, Tony ultimately decided to help Steve get the remaining Avengers freed off the Raft — a way to let bygones be bygones, if only to ensure the protection of a world that needed heroes now more than ever.

Besides, using his own technology to disable Ross's soda-can-in-the-sea made Tony as happy as seeing that hold button blink red on his phone.

With SHIELD stepping in to overturn The Accords, and an exonerated Bucky Barnes shipped off to Wakanda for recovery — leaving old wounds to finally heal — Tony and Steve decide to reassemble the team as they once knew it. It's been roughly 9 months since these events took place.

Meanwhile, now 6 months after the events of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter has rejected his spot on the Avengers, choosing to "stay on the ground" a little bit longer and focus on maturing his skills as a superhero. He thought saying "no" to Mr. Stark's offer would leave him running solo once again, but to his surprise, the billionaire, genius, playboy, philanthropist as the world knew him was suddenly appearing in Peter's life far more than ever before.

Yet still, even with weekly visits to the compound to learn under Iron Man's wing, he stuck to his decision to stay on the ground — making a deal with Mr. Stark that the Avengers wouldn't know his true identity until they were both ready for it.

Unfortunately for them both, that day might be coming around sooner than either one of them could expect.
